My interest in Redding, Connecticut, it's beginnings, landscape, events, churches and schools led me on a quest to present this information in a format for all to see, not for profit, but for the promotion of our great history. The deeper I prodded through the information, the more I enjoyed my surroundings and wished I had begun at a younger age. If just a handful of parents are able to answer their children's questions with the help of this site, I'll have succeeded in what I had set out to do.

A special thank you must be given to my grandfather who has been extremely helpful and enthusiastic. Without his help and knowledge, none of this would have come to fruition. From a young age he has shown me the town as it is and as it was and told me countless stories of places, people, and events that have enriched the history and shaped the landscape of our town. I can not thank him enough for this, I can only say  "this is for you Grandpa, I will always be grateful."

The information on the following pages describes Redding, CT as it was, pure and pristine. We should all be grateful that there are still glimpses of the past around us and work to ensure these glimpses remain. Enjoy.

  Mark Twain in Redding
June 18, 2007 started the count down to 100! Ninety-nine years ago Redding, CT became the home

of Mark Twain. He was so impressed with the Redding house that he stated: "I do so delight in this home that the thought of ever going back to that crude & tasteless NY barn, even to stay overnight, revolts me." In return, Redding, Connecticut, has kept his legacy alive & well via the Mark Twain Library. To celebrate the 100th anniversary I am putting together a calendar and a booklet, learn more about the project.

The Mark Twain Library is looking for 1908 Redding or Mark Twain related artifacts to celebrate their 100th MTL celebration which kicks off on Memorial Day. Contact me if you would like to lend an item.

History of Redding is a not a business or an organization..It's one person working to promote the history of his hometown
and surrounding areas. All costs are out-of-pocket so donations and/or sponsorships will allow me to dedicate more time
and effort to research and updates.
